Twin Falls Tonight Summer Concert Series

The Twin Falls Tonight summer concert series began back in 1999 as part of a marketing effort by the BID (Business Improvement District) to generate more foot traffic in downtown Twin Falls. “We were following a mission plan that called for us to create a gathering space [in downtown Twin Falls]” says Richard Crowley, former Executive Director of the BID. The group decided to create a summer event to bring people down to the heart of the city, as a means of promoting the businesses in downtown Twin Falls. The BID joined forces with the Magic Valley Arts Council (whose offices were located in the downtown area back in the late 1990s) and the Twin Falls Tonight concert series was born. In its inaugural year, the Twin Falls Tonight concerts were held in the parking lot behind the Key Bank building on the corner of Shoshone and Main. After the first year of concerts, organizers decided to move the event out of the parking lot to the Fountain Park on Main Avenue at Hansen Street, hoping that the trees on Main Avenue would provide more shade for their venue.

In the initial years, Twin Falls Tonight was jointly organized by the BID, the Magic Valley Arts Council, and a committee of volunteers. The committee was made up of downtown business owners and community members interested in helping to improve the appeal of Downtown Twin Falls. As the concerts grew in popularity and the BID underwent some major organizational changes (and subsequently was dissolved) and the Arts Council moved out to the Arts Center on the Canyon Rim, the volunteer Twin Falls Tonight Committee members decided to continue the event on their own. There is a lot of confusion that the City of Twin Falls is the main organizer for these events but the truth is that while the City has been particularly supportive of the concert series, they have never actually run it.

In 2012, Twin Falls Tonight concert organizers combined forces with the Market on Main, a weekly farmers market, which had been started the prior year by the revitalization group Downtown Alive. The Market is special in that 100% of all products sold by non-food vendors are handcrafted locally. Market on Main vendors will be set up along Main Avenue between Shoshone Street and Gooding during each of the concerts. Their offerings encompass a variety of products including soaps, balms & lotions, designer clothing items, custom-made decals, wreaths, unique stuffed animals, jewelry, and more. All of the food vendors from last season will be back again at the Market, serving cold beverages, ice cream, snacks, kettle corn, corn dogs, nachos, and barbeque sandwiches. There are also some new food vendors this year, offering specialty desserts, baked goods, wraps, stir fry, and pizza.

Although the Main Avenue Redesign Project in 2016-2017 had parts of Main Avenue torn up, the Twin Falls Tonight committee was able to coordinate with City officials to work around the construction schedule and continue to hold the concerts. In 2018, the concerts premiered in the Downtown Commons in the newly branded and redesigned Downtown Twin. At that time, the Market on Main was discontinued as part of the Twin Falls Tonight concert series and became its own separate entity on Saturday mornings.
